Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 16, Cargill, a U.S.-based grain merchant, announced on Friday that its subsidiary will construct a corn ethanol plant adjacent to its sugarcane facility in Goiás, located in Brazil’s Center-Western region. The agribusiness portal AgFeed initially reported the plan, and Cargill confirmed the decision without sharing additional project details.

In Goiás, Cargill already produces ethanol from both sugarcane and corn through its biofuels division, Cargill Bioenergia. The new plant represents a further step in the company’s efforts to expand biofuel production in Brazil, a major global hub for agricultural commodities.

In February 2025, Cargill acquired a 50% stake in SJC Bioenergia, gaining full control of its facilities in Quirinópolis and Cachoeira Dourada, both in Goiás. The new corn ethanol plant aligns with Cargill’s strategy to boost biofuel output, utilizing Brazil’s robust corn supply to support the growing demand for renewable energy.

The development highlights Cargill’s focus on expanding its role in Brazil’s biofuels industry. By investing in Goiás, the company aims to leverage the region’s agricultural resources to enhance production efficiency and contribute to the renewable energy sector.
