Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 22, The A13 Thames Gateway, a key route connecting Essex and London, is set to undergo a series of overnight closures over the next two years. According to a Transport for London (TfL) traffic order, the closures will take place between 20 October 2025 and 20 June 2027 to allow for road safety improvement works.
The closures will occur nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., though TfL has not yet released the specific dates or a detailed schedule for the works. The planned shutdowns will affect multiple sections of the A13, including the stretch between the Goresbrook Interchange and the slip roads to Marsh Way, the section between Marsh Way and the Ferry Lane slip roads, and the route between Ferry Lane slip roads and Wennington Interchange.
TfL stated that the project aims to enhance road safety and that the works could be completed before the scheduled end date of June 2027. The agency emphasized that closures will only take effect when clearly indicated by traffic signs along the route. TfL also noted that any temporary closures will be managed to minimize disruption and ensure the continued flow of traffic where possible.
The traffic order outlines exemptions allowing access to certain vehicles during the closure periods. Emergency service vehicles, as well as vehicles operating under police direction or with specific permission, will still be permitted to use the road. These exemptions are intended to ensure that essential services remain unaffected throughout the construction period.
The A13 is a major transport corridor in East London, serving as a key link between the capital and the county of Essex. The upcoming works form part of TfL’s broader effort to improve road infrastructure and enhance safety across the region. While temporary inconvenience is expected for motorists and freight operators, TfL aims to complete the upgrades efficiently to reduce long-term disruption.
TfL has not yet provided detailed information regarding the specific safety improvements to be undertaken but is expected to issue updates as the project progresses. Local authorities and transport operators are likely to coordinate to manage traffic diversions and provide advance notice to road users.
The planned closures are part of a wider trend of infrastructure maintenance projects across the London region, as authorities work to maintain the reliability and safety of major transport links. Once completed, the A13 improvement works are expected to contribute to smoother traffic flow and safer travel conditions for both commuters and logistics operators in the area.
