Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 23, The Nigerian National Petroleum Co. Ltd. (NNPC) reported an average crude oil production of 1.37 million barrels per day (MMbpd) during the first three quarters of 2025, according to provisional figures released on Tuesday. September’s output of 1.37 MMbpd marked the third consecutive monthly decline, as stated in the company’s latest report.

The Nigerian state-owned company averaged 1.37 MMbpd in crude production in the first three quarters.

Including condensate production, total oil and condensate output reached 1.61 MMbpd in September, of which 240,000 bpd came from condensates. NNPC’s highest production level this year stood at 1.77 MMbpd. Crude oil sales amounted to 17.81 million barrels in September, also showing a second consecutive monthly drop.

In the natural gas segment, NNPC recorded 6.28 billion standard cubic feet per day (Bscfd) in production and 3.44 Bscfd in sales for September, both figures declining for the second straight month. The company attributed the temporary decrease in output to planned maintenance activities, including work at Nigeria LNG (NLNG) facilities, phased recovery of previously shut-in assets, and delays in operations at Oil Mining Leases (OMLs) 71 and 72.

NNPC reported 77% petrol availability across its retail stations and 96% upstream pipeline availability during the month. Financially, the company posted NGN 4.27 trillion ($2.91 billion) in revenue for September, with a profit after tax of NGN 216 billion and statutory payments totaling NGN 10.07 trillion.

Regarding major infrastructure projects, NNPC stated that work on the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline remained a priority, with “substantial progress” achieved on mainline construction. The company reaffirmed its earlier statement from July 1 that the project is on track for completion by the end of the year.

For the Obiafu-Obrikom-Oben (OB3) Gas Pipeline, NNPC said the execution plan was being adjusted “to ensure delivery within target timelines.” The report also noted that 113 kilometers of the OB3 line have been commissioned, now delivering around 300 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd) of gas.

In related industry news, Shell PLC recently announced a final investment decision (FID) for the development of the HI field, designed to supply up to 350 MMscfd of gas to Nigeria LNG. The field is operated under a joint venture where Shell holds 40% and Sunlink Energies and Resources Ltd. holds 60%. At Nigeria LNG, Shell owns 25.6%.

Discovered in 1985, the HI field is estimated to contain 285 million barrels of oil equivalent and is located 50 kilometers offshore in waters about 100 meters deep. Shell’s Upstream President Peter Costello said: “Following recent investment decisions related to the Bonga deepwater development, today’s announcement demonstrates our continued commitment to Nigeria’s energy sector, with a focus on deepwater and integrated gas. This upstream project will help Shell grow our leading integrated gas portfolio, while supporting Nigeria’s plans to become a more significant player in the global LNG market.”
