Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 1, SK Telecom (SKT) announced on October 30th the appointment of Jaeheon Jeong as its new CEO. Jeong, a lawyer by training, joined SKT in 2020 as Head of the Legal Group and has since held several key positions within SK Group and its affiliates.

As a founding member of SK Square in 2021, Jeong served as Head of the Investment Support Center, overseeing critical departments including strategy, legal affairs, and finance. Since 2024, he has held the role of President of External Cooperation at SKT, managing ESG, corporate responsibility, and public relations functions. He also serves as Chairman of the Governance Committee of the SUPEX Pursuit Council, SK Group’s highest decision-making body, where he has been responsible for advancing group-wide management systems.

CEO Jeong was recognized as the right leader for SKT’s AI and telecommunications initiatives due to his role in establishing AI governance at SKT. This framework implements the company’s AI pursuit values and codes of conduct to ensure reliability and safety in AI applications. Additionally, Jeong has led efforts to restore customer trust and strengthen cybersecurity and information protection systems in response to potential cyber threats.

Jeong is a professional manager with extensive experience in public service and corporate leadership. His career spans positions such as Chairman of the Governance Committee of the SUPEX Pursuit Council, Head of the Investment Support Center at SK Square, and President of External Cooperation at SKT. Under his leadership, SKT aims to solidify organizational fundamentals, reinforce internal and external trust, and advance AI, telecommunications, and digital infrastructure systematically toward becoming a global AI-focused company.

In addition to Jeong’s appointment, SKT has named Han Myung-jin, CEO of SK Square, as the head of its newly established communications Corporate Information Center (CIC). During his tenure at SK Square, Han significantly increased the company’s corporate value through portfolio rebalancing and improving profitability. As CIC Chairman, Han is expected to leverage his experience to strengthen communication, information management, and strategic oversight within SKT.

Together, these leadership changes reflect SKT’s strategic focus on AI integration, telecommunications innovation, and strengthening governance and corporate management.
