Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 2, Ecuador has officially launched its 5G mobile network, powered by Nokia’s next-generation technology, marking a milestone in the nation’s telecommunications development. The network promises speeds of up to 1.5Gbps—around ten times faster than 4G—and ultra-low latency, aiming to provide improved connectivity for consumers and businesses nationwide.
The initial deployment covers 188 sites across Guayaquil and nearby areas, including Samborondón, Daule, Durán, Manta, Portoviejo, Salinas, and Santa Elena. Operating in the N78 3.5GHz frequency band, the rollout aligns with the Ecuadorian government’s national digitalisation policy and plans to achieve full high-speed coverage across the country by mid-2026.
Ronald Spina, general manager of CNT E.P., said: “This is a landmark moment in Ecuador’s technology history. Our new 5G mobile network will offer faster, more stable, and secure connectivity across the country without raising our commercial prices. Beyond telecommunications, we’ll build on Nokia’s advanced solutions to benefit strategic sectors such as health, education, manufacturing, agriculture, and transportation, through data- and AI-driven solutions that improve quality of service for more Ecuadorians.”
To support this initiative, Nokia will provide CNT with advanced equipment from its AirScale Radio Access Network (RAN) portfolio. The supply will include energy-efficient Massive MIMO radios and ReefShark System-on-Chip technology designed to optimize performance and energy use. Additionally, Nokia’s AI-powered MantaRay Network Management system will be deployed to enable intelligent automation and provide a unified view of network operations and performance.
Nokia will also install its 7250 IXR and 7750 SR IP routing platforms, along with 1830 Versatile WDM Transport systems, to ensure efficient, high-speed data transmission. Supported by Nokia’s Network Services Platform (NSP), CNT will enhance its network visibility, automation, and slicing capabilities—key features for supporting mission-critical applications such as emergency communications, smart city infrastructure, and industrial digitalization.
Bruno Leite, head of mobile networks for Latin America at Nokia, stated: “Our long-standing partnership with CNT E.P., providing solutions across mobile, IP, optical, and fixed networks, is a source of pride for Nokia. We are confident this latest collaboration on the 5G launch will significantly modernise CNT’s broadband and support its commitment to build a more innovative, competitive, and connected nation.”
This 5G deployment represents a major step in Ecuador’s digital transformation strategy. It is expected to accelerate the nation’s connectivity development, improve network reliability, and strengthen the digital foundation for key industries. The partnership between CNT and Nokia highlights a shared goal of expanding access to high-speed, secure, and sustainable digital infrastructure to meet the growing data and connectivity demands of Ecuador’s population.
