Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 29, Frasers Group has signed an agreement to acquire the entire Hervis sports retail businesses in Hungary and Romania, the companies announced on 24 November 2025. The transaction includes 29 stores in Hungary and 49 stores in Romania, together with all associated employees. Completion remains subject to clearance by competition authorities in both countries.
As of 31 December 2024, Hervis operated roughly 227 stores across Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, Croatia and Romania.
The sale covers only the Hungarian and Romanian operations. Hervis stores and staff in Austria, Slovenia, and Croatia are not affected and will continue under existing ownership.
Hervis CEO Dr Ulrich Hanfeld explained the strategic rationale: "We are on our way to becoming a modern, sports-focused specialist retailer with a clear product range strategy. The fashion-oriented markets in Hungary and Romania have moved away from our core business. With the sale of Hervis Romania and Hervis Hungary, we are concentrating all our energy on sharpening our profile in our core markets of Austria, Slovenia, and Croatia."
Hervis is wholly owned by SPAR Österreichische Warenhandels and is based in Wals near Salzburg, Austria. As of 31 December 2024, the company operated approximately 227 stores across five countries and recorded gross sales above €490 million, employing around 2,800 people.
Financial terms of the transaction have not been disclosed.
The acquisition continues Frasers Group's recent international growth, coming shortly after it purchased a majority interest in Miami-based luxury retailer The Webster last month. Once approved, the Hervis stores in Hungary and Romania will join Frasers Group’s expanding European retail network.
