Wedoany.com Report-Dec.23, China Southern Airlines is increasing its flights to Brisbane Airport, introducing twice-daily year-round services from March 30, 2026.

This expansion will add over 114,000 additional seats annually on the route, utilizing the modern Airbus A350 aircraft known for improved fuel efficiency, reduced noise, and lower emissions.

As the first airline from China to serve Queensland, China Southern carries more visitors from China to the state than any other carrier. A new codeshare partnership with Virgin Australia will further simplify connections to destinations throughout Queensland.

From Brisbane, travelers can easily transfer via China Southern's major hub in Guangzhou to numerous locations across China, Asia, eight European cities, and five in North America.

Guangzhou functions as an important economic center in southern China, and the enhanced flight capacity is expected to facilitate greater trade and investment exchanges between Queensland and China.

The initiative receives support from the Queensland Government and Brisbane Airport through the Connecting Queensland Fund.

Brisbane Airport CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff noted that the change to double-daily operations represents the highest frequency the airline has offered to Brisbane since starting services in 2010. “Moving to double-daily flights year-round will supercharge Brisbane’s connectivity and give travellers greater choice and flexibility when flying to and from China. Australians can now enjoy a taste of China on their travels with visa-free stopovers up to 30 days, to fill up in the home of dim-sum and classical Cantonese cuisine. Passengers will also be able to take advantage of China Southern’s vast global network and enjoy quick and easy connections on popular routes to London, Paris, Amsterdam and more.”

Queensland Minister for the Environment and Tourism Andrew Powell emphasized the benefits: “Queensland is the home of the holiday, and these new routes mean more visitors and more money flowing into local businesses. We said we’d boost connectivity – and we are doing exactly that. We are making Queensland more accessible and more connected than ever before.”

Jason Sun, Regional General Manager of China Southern Airlines for Australia and New Zealand, highlighted market demand: “We are excited to announce that starting from 30 March 2026, China Southern Airlines will increase its Brisbane-Guangzhou service to twice daily. This capacity enhancement reflects our long-term confidence in Queensland market and directly responds to the growing demand for business, tourism, cultural exchange, and family travel between the Greater Bay Area and Brisbane. Brisbane plays a pivotal role in our Australasian network. The double-daily service will provide travellers with greater flexibility, improved connectivity through our Guangzhou hub to over 220 destinations across China and beyond, and stronger support for the economic and cultural ties between Queensland and China.”

Brisbane Airport currently serves 35 international destinations, with international passenger numbers projected to increase by 9 percent this summer compared to the previous year. The airport anticipates a record 25 million total passengers this year and is undertaking a $5 billion development program over the next five years as part of its Future BNE initiative.
