Wedoany.com Report-Dec.28, Multiconsult has secured a contract from Å Energi to handle the design for rehabilitating dams at the Kvernevatn reservoir in Åseral municipality, Agder county, Norway.
The initiative focuses on enhancing dam safety and strengthening the structures against future climate and weather challenges.
Central to the project is the upgrade of the main Kvernevatn dam, which falls under Norway's highest consequence classification. This status demands rigorous technical standards, comprehensive safety measures, careful environmental oversight, and integrated expertise from various engineering fields.
Multiconsult will oversee design activities across all stages, from preliminary planning and detailed engineering to preparing tender documents and providing technical assistance during construction. The entire assignment will utilize a fully digital, model-based approach, eliminating conventional drawings.
Initial work began in autumn 2025. Preparation of tender documents is scheduled for completion in 2026, paving the way for the subsequent construction period.
The project addresses a wider requirement in Norway for modernizing aging hydropower dams to meet current safety regulations and adapt to evolving environmental conditions. It combines localized project understanding with specialized national knowledge in dam engineering.
This collaboration supports continued reliable operation of essential hydropower infrastructure while incorporating advanced practices for long-term resilience
