en.Wedoany.com Reported - German industrial technology group Voith has announced that it has been awarded a contract by Norwegian energy company Statkraft Energi AS for the modernization of the Sima hydropower station, under which it will update the station's existing control, electrical and automation systems. Located in the Eidfjord area of Norway, the station is the country's second-largest hydropower station by installed capacity, featuring two water conveyance tunnels and 4 generating units, with a total installed capacity of 1,120 MW and annual power generation of approximately 3.1 billion kWh.

The contract covers the comprehensive modernization of the station's existing control system as well as the supply of supporting electrical and auxiliary equipment. Voith will provide automation control systems, electrical protection systems, AC/DC power supply systems, medium-voltage electrical components and related cables, with supporting software developed and maintained by its in-house specialist team. During the modernization, the Sima hydropower station will continue to generate power, and Voith must integrate the new equipment into the existing infrastructure in stages, gradually replacing the original control and electrical systems and organizing system changeovers in accordance with the station's operating conditions.

The Sima hydropower station was commissioned in 1980. Statkraft made its final investment decision on the station's control equipment upgrade in the first quarter of 2026. Following the award of this contract, Voith will assume overall responsibility for the modernization within the contract scope, with the focus on updating the existing electrical control facilities, extending equipment service life and reducing the risk of unplanned outages.
