en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 16, Argentine lime producer Caleras San Juan held the official unveiling ceremony for its fourth MAERZ lime kiln, "Matilda," at its Cienaguita plant in San Juan Province, completing the ten-year production facility expansion plan launched in 2016. The equipment was supplied by Swiss technology provider MAERZ, stands 44 meters tall, and achieved its first ignition in June 2026. With all four lime kilns now completed, the company's annual lime production capacity exceeds 600,000 tons.

Caleras San Juan commissioned its first three MAERZ lime kilns in 2018, 2021, and 2024 respectively, and the fourth unit completes the originally planned production line construction program. The four kilns employ high thermal efficiency lime calcination technology, with a nominal daily capacity of approximately 300 tons per kiln. At the unveiling ceremony, General Manager Raúl Cabanay disclosed that approximately 65% of the expansion project's investment went toward local procurement and supporting engineering works, with construction funding supported by banks, customers, and the provincial government. Belgian lime production group Carmeuse recently acquired an 80% equity stake in the Caleras San Juan group, and its representatives attended the ceremony.

Caleras San Juan plans to use the added lime production capacity to supply mining projects in Argentina, Chile, and Peru, with a focus on copper mining, lithium mining, and metallurgical companies. At the event, Raúl Cabanay noted that the existing natural gas pipeline transmission capacity is approaching its limit and that gas supply infrastructure needs to be expanded to meet future lime kiln expansion needs. The company is also calling for progress on the Route 153 highway project connecting San Juan with other markets, and is evaluating plans for further production facility expansion.
