en.Wedoany.com Reported - The repair and upgrade project of the Misgar 3MW Hydropower Station in Hunza District, Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, has officially commenced. The project is being implemented by NPAK Energy Limited and incorporated into the Energy Plus project, funded by the European Union and the Aga Khan Foundation, while being advanced in cooperation with the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan. This renovation will restore and enhance the operational capacity of the existing hydropower station, increasing local renewable electricity supply in the Hunza region.

The Misgar Hydropower Station has an existing installed capacity of 3MW. NPAK Energy previously launched a public tender for this project, with the scope of work being the repair and upgrade of the existing 3MW hydropower station, under tender number PAK/NPAK/004/2026/WO-3MW/RFB/MG. The project is partially funded by EU Grant PC-26345, and the tender is being advanced through a single-stage, single-envelope process, requiring bidders to provide a bid security of 6.36 million Pakistani Rupees.

The hydropower station renovation is being implemented in parallel with the Hunza power grid upgrade. The first phase of the Energy Plus project has completed a batch of transmission and distribution infrastructure, including 1 new substation and transformer, 10 transformer stations, 55 upgraded transformers, 25.3 kilometers of transmission lines, 86.5 kilometers of distribution lines, and approximately 460 kilometers of consumer connection lines, while also installing approximately 9,000 electricity meters. Once the hydropower station repair is completed, it will work together with these transmission and distribution facilities to enhance regional power supply capacity and grid operational stability.

The Hunza region features complex mountainous terrain, and its power infrastructure has long faced issues such as high line losses and limited supply capacity. The Misgar Hydropower Station renovation will continue to utilize local hydropower resources, restoring the performance of existing power generation equipment and improving supporting systems to provide new stable power sources for local residents, public facilities, and industrial electricity consumption. NPAK Energy is headquartered in Aliabad, Hunza, and has long been engaged in the development and operation of local renewable energy and power infrastructure projects.
