Wedoany.com Report-Dec.23, RWE has agreed to sell its F.E.W. Baltic II offshore wind project, planned for 350 MW capacity, to PGE in Poland.

RWE currently runs 19 offshore wind farms in five countries.

The wind farm will be situated approximately 50 kilometers off the coast north of Ustka in the Baltic Sea. The transaction is anticipated to close in the first quarter of 2026.

As part of the process, RWE has transferred the environmental permit and associated data for the adjacent offshore area 44.E.1 to PGE.

RWE operates onshore wind and solar facilities in Poland with a combined capacity exceeding 660 MW.

Sven Utermöhlen, Chief Executive Officer of RWE Offshore Wind, said: “We are convinced that, in synergy with their other portfolio, PGE is better positioned to realise this project than RWE would be on a standalone basis. However, our target to further grow our offshore wind portfolio remains unchanged.

“We are currently building four large-scale offshore wind farms in four European countries and have several further offshore projects under development.”

RWE manages 19 offshore wind farms across five countries, totaling 6.2 GW installed capacity, of which 3.3 GW is proportional to its ownership. Construction is underway on four additional projects: Sofia off northern England, Thor in Denmark, OranjeWind off the Dutch coast, and Nordseecluster north of the German island of Juist. These will add 4.8 GW overall, with RWE's share at 3.1 GW.

In a separate agreement, RWE has secured a 15-year power purchase contract with Indiana Michigan Power Company (I&M), a subsidiary of American Electric Power, for the full output of the 200 MW Prairie Creek solar project in Blackford County, Indiana, United States.

The arrangement supports I&M's strategy to meet growing electricity demand in Indiana by diversifying its generation resources. Once operational, Prairie Creek will generate sufficient electricity to supply around 42,000 local households annually, contributing to reliable and cost-effective energy delivery.

Additionally, RWE commenced construction in October on Germany's largest battery storage facility at its Gundremmingen site in Bavaria.

These developments reflect RWE's ongoing commitment to expanding renewable energy capacity across multiple regions and technologies.
