Recently, the Great Places Housing Group officially broke ground on the £21 million Coalbrook Court development in the Grey Mare Lane area of Beswick, Manchester. This project marks the beginning of a significant affordable housing construction initiative in the region.

The project plans to deliver 82 apartments for social rent, comprising one-bedroom and two-bedroom units. Some ground-floor units feature private terraces, while most upper-floor apartments are equipped with balconies. Residents will also have access to shared landscaped areas. New pedestrian pathways will be created to improve walking connections between Grey Mare Lane and Ashton New Road. This affordable housing scheme has received support from 'Great Places' project funding, Homes England, and the Greater Manchester Combined Authority's Brownfield Housing Fund.

Coalbrook Court is the first project to commence under the Grey Mare Lane neighbourhood masterplan, which was approved in September 2025. The masterplan envisions approximately 1,000 new homes for the area, including a substantial proportion of affordable housing. The project is being advanced by Manchester City Council, One Manchester, and This City, with Caddick Construction Limited serving as the main contractor.
