On January 21, Ling Ji, Vice Minister of Commerce of China and Deputy International Trade Representative, and Christopher Cutajar, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade of Malta, jointly chaired the 11th meeting of the China-Malta Joint Committee on Economic and Trade Cooperation in Beijing.
Ling Ji stated that in recent years, China-Malta economic and trade cooperation has developed steadily and healthily, yielding fruitful results. During the "15th Five-Year Plan" period, China will unswervingly expand high-level opening up, and is willing to strengthen strategic alignment with Malta, tap into cooperation potential, deepen cooperation in areas such as agricultural product trade, shipping, green energy, port logistics, and tourism, and promote the healthy development of bilateral economic and trade relations.
Cutajar stated that Malta attaches great importance to developing economic and trade relations with China and hopes to further expand exports of Maltese agricultural and fishery products to China. Malta welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest in Malta and is willing to deepen cooperation between the two countries in areas such as connectivity, cultural tourism, and new energy.
After the meeting, the two sides signed the minutes of this Joint Committee meeting. The Transportation, Port and Shipping Bureau of Yangpu Economic Development Zone in Hainan Province and Malta Freeport Corporation Ltd. signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation.
