The Texas Department of Transportation recently awarded a $146 million highway upgrade project to local firm Jordan Foster Construction. This project represents the first phase of the US 90 corridor improvement project on the west side of San Antonio, covering the segment between SH 211 and I-410.
Jordan Foster will be responsible for upgrading approximately 5.5 kilometers of US 90 between Interstate 410 and Loop 1604. This phase is expected to be completed by 2030.
The total estimated investment for the entire US 90 corridor improvement project is approximately $473 million. The project plans to add six lanes (three in each direction) along the roughly 7-kilometer stretch between Loop 1604 and SH 211, modify existing interchanges, and construct frontage roads, roundabouts, and pedestrian/cyclist facilities. The current roadway in this section is only two lanes (one in each direction). The upgrade will significantly enhance traffic capacity to accommodate continuously growing demand. Traffic volume on this segment is projected to double by 2045.
The second segment of the project (from Loop 1604 to SH 211) is scheduled to begin in 2028, with a construction period of approximately 36 months. Funding for this segment has not been fully secured, and specific bidding processes will be initiated at a later appropriate time.
