Wedoany.com Report on Feb 4th, Daher has officially launched the TBM 980, the new model in its high-performance single-engine turboprop aircraft series, which features significant enhancements in cockpit technology and passenger comfort. The TBM 980 integrates the Garmin G3000® PRIME avionics suite of the third generation and builds upon the proven performance and efficiency foundation of the TBM 900 series.

The unveiling event took place at Daher's TBM production facility in Tarbes, attended by customers, partners, and aviation professionals. The ceremony, broadcast globally, highlighted the international impact of the TBM program. The core upgrade of the TBM 980 lies in the Garmin G3000 PRIME flight deck, equipped with three 14-inch frameless touchscreen displays that offer clearer images and faster response times, designed to streamline pilot workflows.

Nicolas Chabbert, CEO of Daher, stated: "Our slogan for the TBM 980, 'Fly Different,' reflects a true transformation in the flight experience. The touchscreen-controlled flight deck revolutionizes the interface between the pilot and the aircraft, while enhancing passenger comfort through improved connectivity and cabin features." The G3000 PRIME system features an application-based interface, allowing quick access to frequently used functions like radios and transponders via shortcuts, and includes a redesigned four-way joystick for improved handling.

In terms of safety, the TBM 980 integrates Daher's e-copilot® automation system, which includes features such as weather awareness and ice protection, and is equipped with Garmin's HomeSafe™ emergency autoland system. The aircraft also features the Garmin GWX™ 8000 all-digital weather radar, utilizing StormOptix technology to enhance detection capabilities in adverse weather.

Regarding performance, the TBM 980 draws on the operational advantages of the TBM 960. It is powered by a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6E-66XT smart turboprop engine and a five-blade Hartzell composite propeller, managed by a Full Authority Digital Engine Control system. The cabin is a six-seat, pressurized design, with options for a Starlink Mini satellite internet terminal and high-power USB-C charging ports. Connectivity services include Garmin PlaneSync™ remote management and support for electronic flight bag applications.

The TBM 980 has received airworthiness certification from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency and recognition from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration. Customer deliveries began this month. Didier Kayat, Chairman of Daher, noted that this is the sixth model introduced in the TBM 900 series since 2014 and the first aircraft certified under Daher's new organizational structure. By the end of 2025, 1,294 TBM aircraft had been delivered globally, with the series maintaining a significant position in the general aviation turboprop market.
