Wedoany.com Report on Feb 9th, Regular tea consumption helps manage risk factors for chronic diseases, such as coronary heart disease, hypertension, and various types of cancer. Nutrition experts point out that tea leaves are rich in antioxidant polyphenols, and regular drinking can reduce the incidence of cardiovascular diseases and cancer.

Samuel Maina, a lecturer at the Kenya Medical Training College in Nairobi, mentioned: "Although Kenya has an abundant tea production, local consumption is not high because many people are unaware of its health value and tend to prefer alcoholic beverages, juices, or porridge." He explained that the antioxidants in tea have detoxifying properties, capable of clearing excess free radicals from the body.
Excessive exposure to sunlight, environmental pollution, and smoking can lead to an increase in free radicals, which is associated with rising cases of cancer and coronary heart disease. Maina added that antioxidants can counteract these adverse effects and reduce the risk of stroke, oral cancer, pancreatic cancer, and prostate cancer. Both black tea and green tea can inhibit harmful intestinal bacteria while protecting bacteria beneficial for metabolism.
A 2022 study by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization confirmed that tea antioxidants help combat harmful free radicals that accelerate aging and weaken the immune system. The study also indicated that black tea can prevent the oxidation process of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol. The study concluded: "The oxidation of low-density lipoprotein is a mechanism in coronary heart disease, related to the risk of atherosclerosis. Antioxidants inhibit this step, which explains why regular tea drinkers have a lower risk of heart disease."
Other health benefits include aiding in enhancing muscle function, and the calcium in daily tea helps prevent stomach ulcers and intestinal issues. Nutritionists believe that drinking several cups of tea daily can protect dental health by inhibiting plaque formation. For those who consume more alcohol, even drinking tea just once a week can be beneficial.
Maki Inoue Choi, a researcher at AstraZeneca, noted in a study from 2022 to 2025: "Although some data suggest that drinking up to 10 cups of tea daily may offer health benefits, the evidence-based general recommendation is three to five cups per day to achieve optimal health." He cautioned that drinking 10 cups of caffeinated tea daily could lead to anxiety, insomnia, and reduced iron absorption.
However, Dr. Choi also mentioned that tea can boost metabolism, aid in weight management, and caffeine-free tea is known for soothing emotions, relieving anxiety, and improving sleep quality.
