India's Telecom Market Data for December 2025 Released: Wireless Subscribers Exceed 1.25 Billion, Broadband Users Surpass 1 Billion

Wedoany.com Report on Feb 11th, According to the December 2025 report from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), India's telecom market continues to expand. The total number of wireless subscribers increased to 1.25877 billion, and broadband subscriptions crossed the 1 billion milestone, reaching 1.00735 billion. Mobile connections are steadily growing, broadband adoption continues to rise, and competition among private operators is intensifying.

The wireless subscriber base saw a net addition of 8.21 million in December, with a monthly growth rate of 0.66%. Active users accounted for approximately 92.4% of the base. Private telecom operators dominate the market, holding a 92.53% share. Bharti Airtel added 5.43 million subscribers during the month, holding a 37.24% wireless market share; Reliance Jio added 2.96 million subscribers, holding a 39.31% market share; Vodafone Idea lost 940,000 subscribers, holding a 15.98% market share. Public sector operators BSNL and MTNL experienced subscriber losses.

Broadband users surpassed 1 billion, with mobile wireless broadband (3G, 4G, 5G) users reaching 947.3 million, fixed wired broadband users at 45.29 million, and fixed wireless access users at 14.77 million. Reliance Jio leads the broadband market with 514.35 million users, followed by Bharti Airtel with 314.26 million users. The top five operators together account for 98.52% of the broadband market.

The fixed-line subscriber base increased to 47.37 million, with a net addition of 320,000 in December. Private providers hold 80.30% of the fixed-line market. Reliance Jio had a net addition of 205,033 subscribers, holding a 31.14% market share; Bharti Airtel added 189,628 subscribers, holding a 23.13% market share. BSNL, MTNL, and Vodafone Idea recorded losses in the fixed-line segment.

The inclusion of M2M connections impacted metrics; the overall tele-density including M2M is 91.74%, while excluding M2M it is 84.01%. The urban-rural divide persists, with rural tele-density at 59.63% and urban tele-density at 148.92%, indicating a significant digital divide. 5G Fixed Wireless Access users increased to 10.99 million. Mobile number portability demand remains strong, with 16.12 million subscribers submitting requests in December.
