Wedoany.com Report on Feb 11th, In 2024, China's domestically produced excavators led the global export market, with their presence seen across Southeast Asian infrastructure sites, African mining operations, and European farmlands. However, there are underlying concerns regarding the engine supply for these Chinese-made excavators. In the domestic mid-to-high-end market, the installation rate of imported engines exceeds 70%, with Japanese brands accounting for over half. For small and medium-tonnage Chinese excavators, Japanese engines are even more dominant. This pattern of "exporting complete machines while importing core components" has become a hindrance to the development of China's construction machinery industry.

Facing competition from Japanese engines, China's domestic engine manufacturers have proactively increased R&D investment, achieving continuous breakthroughs in power systems for medium-tonnage models and gradually narrowing the performance gap with Japanese products. Today, the layout of Chinese domestic engines is becoming increasingly comprehensive, with self-developed series covering various small and medium-sized models, and power output capable of meeting diverse operational demands.
Some domestic Chinese engines have optimized combustion chamber structures to achieve more complete fuel combustion, significantly improving thermal efficiency. Under the same working conditions, their fuel consumption is 5%-8% lower than some competing Japanese products. Their compatibility has been continuously optimized, successfully matching models from several mainstream excavator brands and gaining widespread market recognition. Furthermore, Chinese domestic engines have distinct advantages in cost-effectiveness and service networks. Their prices are generally lower than comparable Japanese products, and service outlets achieve full coverage in core county-level regions, providing users with efficient and convenient after-sales support, reducing equipment downtime, and ensuring operational efficiency.
Leveraging these advantages, the replacement process of Chinese domestic engines in the excavator market is accelerating, with their market share steadily increasing.
