Wedoany.com Report on Feb 14th, Silanna Semiconductor, a provider of high-performance mixed-signal solutions, announces that its FirePower laser emitter system integrated circuits are now in mass production, designed for more compact and energy-efficient LiDAR and ranging applications.
These ICs are designed to significantly reduce power consumption, system size, bill of materials costs, and simplify the design process, offering clear advantages over traditional laser driver technologies.
The SL2001 and SL2002 are the industry's first laser emitter system ICs that integrate resonant capacitor charging with high-current laser diode emission on a single chip, eliminating multiple external discrete components and inefficient conversion stages.
For example, using the SL2001 with a 400 W quad-emitter laser module can reduce the laser system's footprint by 80%, from 400 mm² down to 80 mm².
Both devices come in a 14-pin 3.5 mm² package, achieve up to 85% input voltage to resonant capacitor charging efficiency, and are compatible with quad-emitter lasers and vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs).
The SL2001 is optimized for automotive-grade LiDAR applications, operating from a 3 to 24 V supply, offering less than 2 ns pulse width and 1000 W peak power output. The SL2002 is suited for handheld and battery-powered systems, supporting a 2.8 to 5.5 V supply, capable of 100 W pulse output and achieving a 1 MHz repetition rate.
"From automotive LiDAR to sports, industrial, logistics, and consumer fields, the potential to integrate laser measurement technology into diverse applications is immense," noted Ahsan Zaman, Product Marketing Director at Silanna Semiconductor. "Engineers in these scenarios seek smaller size, lower power consumption, simplified systems, and cost control. The preview versions have received positive feedback, and we are excited to be in full production."
FirePower datasheets and detailed information on the SL2001 and SL2002 laser driver ICs are available on the Silanna FirePower homepage.
FirePower evaluation kits and production ICs are now available through DigiKey.
