Zaha Hadid Architects recently unveiled the design for a 47-story office tower in Taipei, introduced after winning an international competition. This skyscraper, located in the heart of Taipei's financial district, will serve as part of the "National Innovation, Creativity, and Finance Center," housing several institutions of the Financial Supervisory Commission, including the stock exchange, futures exchange, and depository and clearing corporation.

The skyscraper will be constructed in a busy area of Taipei, near Taipei Main Station, and adjacent to the historic Taipei Beimen Post Office building. According to Zaha Hadid Architects' plan, the post office will be converted into a museum and cultural space at the base of the office tower, with its original interior restored and later additions removed. The museum will feature immersive exhibitions, documents, and artifacts showcasing the building's 95-year history as a postal service center.

The design of the office tower draws inspiration from the native Taiwanese Phalaenopsis orchid, with a façade featuring fluted columns that run the entire height of the building, unfolding and extending as the floors rise. Zaha Hadid Architects stated that this pleated façade system helps regulate solar heat gain and airflow in Taiwan's humid climate, with the wall shapes allowing the building to "breathe like an organism." The tower will sit on a podium scaled to match the post office, facing a large new courtyard intended for public performances and events.

Zaha Hadid Architects' design combines modern skyscraper functionality with historical preservation elements, aiming to enhance Taipei's urban landscape and public space experience. This 47-story skyscraper is expected to become a central hub for local financial and cultural activities.
