Videotron has selected Samsung Electronics to deploy a cloud-native 5G and 4G core network in Canada, upgrading its network infrastructure. This move, building on the long-term collaboration between the two companies in the Radio Access Network (RAN) domain, will enhance Samsung's influence in the Canadian telecommunications market.

The project focuses on building a cloud-native core network to improve reliability, flexibility, and scalability, providing consumers and enterprises with a smoother connectivity experience. Samsung will provide a turnkey solution running on Dell PowerEdge servers equipped with AMD EPYC 9005 server CPUs and Red Hat OpenShift, leveraging cloud-native 5G and 4G core technology.

This deployment reflects the trend in telecommunications infrastructure moving towards openness and interoperability. By adopting industry-standard hardware and a Kubernetes-based hybrid cloud platform, the solution can accelerate innovation and optimize network operations. Key benefits include enhanced network resilience and reliability, support for automated operations to simplify management, and flexible scalability to accommodate future growth.

Mohamed Drif, Chief Technology Officer of Videotron, stated, "Samsung's proven success in RAN infrastructure was a key factor in our decision to extend the collaboration to the core network." The new platform supports Videotron in enhancing its services in Quebec and aligns with its plan to expand its digital-first mobile and home internet brand nationwide, fitting into its long-term network evolution strategy.

Stephen Wiktorski, Vice President and Head of the Network Division at Samsung Electronics, said, "This deployment will help Videotron optimize performance, reduce operational complexity, and build a future-proof, scalable network." The project expands Samsung's end-to-end network capabilities, moving from RAN to complete core network delivery. Samsung has been providing cloud-native core solutions since 2015, supporting deployments from LTE to 5G Standalone (SA) in multiple markets and is currently integrating AI-driven automation into its telecommunications platforms.

This deployment is part of Samsung's growing role in the Canadian telecommunications ecosystem, following its recent core network collaborations with other operators. As Canada's fourth-largest mobile operator, Videotron had 4.32 million mobile lines as of September 30, 2025, and offers the leading Helix home entertainment platform and high-speed internet services in Quebec. By deploying cloud-native 5G and 4G core networks, Samsung is driving the development of advanced telecommunications services in the region.
