Wedoany.com Report on Feb 25th, Against the backdrop of continuously growing global demand for key minerals for the energy transition, such as copper and zinc, the 16th International Mining Seminar, organized by the National Society of Mining, Petroleum and Energy of Peru (SNMPE), will open on May 26. One of the core sessions will feature a presentation by Eric Heimlich, Head of Copper and Zinc Market Analysis and Forecasting at the international professional market intelligence firm CRU, analyzing global mineral shortage trends and the opportunities faced by Peru as a producer.

Heimlich will explore the evolution of consumption related to electrification, infrastructure, and decarbonization within the context of global mineral shortages, forecast supply gaps in the coming years, and assess the conditions required for mining jurisdictions like Peru to attract investment and play a key role in the global market. His analysis provides a technical and forward-looking foundation for the seminar, which will be followed by a roundtable discussion with Peruvian mining leaders to discuss what measures should be taken at the regulatory, institutional, and operational levels to seize this historic opportunity.

The roundtable will be moderated by Victor Gobitz, CEO and Chairman of Quilla Resources, who will guide the discussion to focus on specific proposals to enhance the competitiveness of formal mining investments. Gobitz stated: "The international situation presents Peru with an extraordinary opportunity, but whether we can leverage it depends on our ability to provide clear rules, predictable processes, and efficient public administration. If we do not bridge our internal gaps, other countries will attract these investments."

Roundtable participants include Raul Jacob, Vice President of Finance and CFO of Southern Peru Copper Corporation; Juan Luis Kruger, General Manager of Minsur; Leandro García, General Manager of Compañía de Minas Buenaventura; and Luis Rivera, South America Operations Director and COO of Glencore. Their experience covers financial structuring for large-scale projects and complex operational management. They will discuss reforms and actions from a corporate perspective to accelerate permitting processes, improve government coordination, and ensure competitive investment conditions.

The 16th International Mining Seminar is scheduled for May 26-28 at the JW Marriott Hotel Lima, under the theme "Mining Integration: Building the Present, Transforming the Future." The seminar will bring together business leaders, government officials, academia, and international experts to delve into the topic of mineral shortages and the future direction of the industry against the backdrop of high global demand for minerals.
