Flexible DC transmission technology is a new type of transmission technology based on voltage source converters. Unlike traditional DC transmission, flexible DC transmission does not rely on grid commutation, eliminates the risk of commutation failure, and allows independent control of active and reactive power. It has no special requirements for the connected AC grid, enabling convenient interconnection of various AC and DC networks. Additionally, flexible DC transmission does not require an external commutation voltage and can operate in passive inverter mode, making it ideal for supplying power to passive or weak grids, such as islands, offshore platforms, and remote areas, via DC submarine cables. Furthermore, flexible DC transmission technology is widely applicable in areas such as renewable energy grid integration, capacity enhancement for urban power grids, and DC power supply.
