The downhole safety valve joint is mainly used as a wire retrievable downhole safety valve landing joint.

The control line protrusion is specially machined (not welded), with a control line inlet and a 0.312" (7.92 mm) x 0.312" (7.92 mm) protection groove, which can be used to pass the 1/4" (6.35 mm) hydraulic control line connected to the retrievable safety valve below. The control line working fluid is isolated from the tubing fluid by metal-to-metal seals.
