Wedoany.com Report on Mar 16th, The Malaysian government has agreed to unify the application procedures and technical conditions for renovation works at residential and commercial premises nationwide. The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) stated in a release that the guidelines on this matter were approved at the 87th National Council for Local Government meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof. These guidelines inform property owners about the scope of permissible renovation works, provided they do not compromise structural safety, natural ventilation, and urban planning coordination.

The National Council for Local Government meeting serves as a crucial platform for the federal and state governments to formulate policies and laws concerning local government affairs. Matters related to renovation works discussed at the meeting will first be submitted to the respective state governments for deliberation before being formally implemented nationwide. Attendees at the meeting included Minister of Housing and Local Government Nga Kor Ming, state executive council members, relevant federal ministers, and senior government officials.
KPKT noted that the meeting also agreed to implement community service orders for littering offenses as a means to educate and rehabilitate offenders. Implementation will be based on the circumstances of each state and federal territory. KPKT stated: "The implementation of community service not only aims to improve urban cleanliness but also helps foster a sense of shared responsibility for maintaining public environmental cleanliness within society."
At the meeting, Fadillah emphasized the need to strengthen enforcement at the local government level to ensure that the various policies, regulations, and guidelines formulated are implemented more consistently, judiciously, and effectively, including the supervision of renovation works.
According to previous reports, since the community service order was implemented earlier this year, over 1,000 litterers have been apprehended nationwide. Nga Kor Ming pointed out that this measure has yielded significant results in improving public health. States currently enforcing the Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Act include Kedah, Johor, Pahang, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Perlis, and the Federal Territories, with enforcement carried out by officers from the Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Corporation. The implementation of unified renovation procedures will provide clearer guidance for property owners, ensuring construction processes comply with safety and planning requirements.
