Wedoany.com Report, On the 16th, Libya's National Oil Corporation announced the discovery of two natural gas fields off the northwest coast of Libya, with a total estimated reserve of approximately 1 trillion cubic feet (28 billion cubic meters).
In a statement, the National Oil Corporation of Libya said that after its foreign partner, Eni North Africa, completed drilling and conducted preliminary assessments at the offshore geological structures named "A Salam 2" and "A Salam 3," located 16 kilometers south of the A Salam gas field, the discovery of the new gas fields was confirmed. It is understood that the A Salam gas field is a major natural gas production area in Libya. The company stated that the newly discovered natural gas will help meet domestic and international market demand.
Italian energy company Eni Group stated in a declaration that the produced natural gas will be exported to Italy while also meeting Libya's domestic market needs.
Libya is one of Africa's largest oil producers and a member of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). Oil and gas exports are Libya's primary source of revenue. However, since the overthrow of the Gaddafi regime in 2011, the country has been plagued by conflict and political instability.
