Wedoany.com Report, On March 17th, ZF LIFETEC, a subsidiary of the ZF Group, launched the capacity expansion project for its gas generator base in the Xi'an Economic and Technological Development Zone, China. This initiative aims to increase production capacity and strengthen its footprint in the Asia-Pacific market. With an investment of 150 million euros, the project will construct a new plant covering approximately 3,636 square meters, serving as a crucial part of ZF LIFETEC's global strategy.

According to the plan, by 2026, the project will focus on establishing production lines and supporting equipment for SHI2/SHI3 hybrid gas generators. Upon full operation, it is expected to add an annual production capacity of 4.1 million SHI2/SHI3 hybrid gas generators and 1.8 million vehicle hood lifters. By then, the Xi'an base's total annual output of gas generators will exceed 21 million units, achieving a significant enhancement in both production scale and efficiency.
Regarding technological R&D, the project will simultaneously establish a comprehensive capability R&D laboratory, integrating over 60 years of ZF LIFETEC's expertise in passive safety technology. The laboratory will cover the entire chain, including material testing, structural strength testing, and product prototyping. It will focus on the development of next-generation hybrid gas generators, driving advancements in automotive passive safety technology.
As the sole production base in the Asia-Pacific region for such products within the ZF Group, the Xi'an base has achieved remarkable performance in the automotive passive safety field since its establishment in 2010. Following the project's launch, the base will collaborate with nine production facilities and five R&D institutions across the Asia-Pacific region. It will seek breakthroughs in technology and processes across multiple dimensions, continuing to provide safer and more reliable passive safety solutions for global users.
Manfred Hughes, Global Head of Gas Generator Production Lines at ZF LIFETEC, stated: "The Chinese market is a core component of ZF LIFETEC's global strategy. The Xi'an base, as a key production hub in the Asia-Pacific region, has achieved sustained and stable growth. The launch of this capacity expansion project fully demonstrates the company's firm commitment to deepening its presence in the Chinese market and the Asia-Pacific region." In the future, leveraging global technological resources, ZF LIFETEC will further enhance the production and R&D capabilities of the Xi'an base, aiming to establish it as one of the world's leading gas generator production bases, providing superior products and services to global customers.
