en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 25th, Southwark Council in London, UK, and Higgins Partnerships have recently commenced construction on the second phase of the Ledbury Estate regeneration project on Old Kent Road, marking a significant milestone in this long-term redevelopment plan. The plan will replace outdated tower blocks built in the 1960s using a large-panel system, which were later identified as having fire and structural risks. The second phase of construction will deliver 215 council homes and 45 homes for private sale, while also improving public spaces, commercial units, and community facilities. Upon completion of the overall regeneration project, a total of 340 new homes will be provided, including 275 council homes, alongside shared ownership and private sale homes.

Deputy Mayor for Housing and Residential Development, Tom Copley, joined residents, councilors, and project partners for the groundbreaking ceremony. Copley stated: "The Mayor and I are proud to support the renewal of the Ledbury Estate through a £5.7 million grant from City Hall and to welcome the start of this second phase of construction. This is a significant and bold redevelopment project that will deliver 340 new homes across a mix of tenures, helping Londoners and families access safe, high-quality homes in the borough. I look forward to continuing to work with Southwark Council to increase the supply of affordable homes and build a fairer, better London for all of us." This construction project, supported by City Hall funding, is a key part of increasing the supply of affordable housing.

Dominic Higgins, Chief Operating Officer of The Higgins Group, said: "We are delighted to be starting work on the second phase of this major estate regeneration project alongside our partners at Southwark Council. In addition to delivering 340 high-quality homes across a mix of tenures, the scheme will also provide new green spaces, community courtyards, play areas, and improved pedestrian and cycle connections for the community. We are also proud to continue engaging with the local community and creating local employment opportunities." The project is being delivered following extensive consultation with the local community to ensure it meets long-term needs. The second phase of construction will continue to advance housing delivery while improving walking routes and community facilities to create a more resilient and friendly neighborhood.
