en.Wedoany.com Reported - Tokyo-based diversified chemical and materials company Asahi Kasei has announced plans to cease production of certain petrochemical derivatives at its Mizushima Works in Japan by fiscal 2030, as part of a broader business portfolio restructuring within its materials segment.

The plan covers styrene monomer, low-density and high-density polyethylene, acrylonitrile, and polycarbonate diol. Production of styrene monomer and polyethylene grades will be terminated. For acrylonitrile, Asahi Kasei will shut down its 200,000-ton-per-year Mizushima production line, while converting a 50,000-ton-per-year methacrylonitrile line into a co-production line for acrylonitrile and methacrylonitrile, and will continue to supply acrylonitrile through its South Korean subsidiary, Tongsuh Petrochemical. Production of polycarbonate diol at Mizushima will also be terminated, with supply maintained through its Chinese subsidiary, Asahi Kasei Performance Chemicals.

The company stated that these measures are aligned with the previously announced plan to cease ethylene production at Asahi Kasei Mitsubishi Chemical Ethylene Corp., aiming to exit businesses where profitability has become structurally pressured. According to Asahi Kasei, this restructuring is expected to improve profit margins and reduce cash outflows, thereby reallocating capital to higher-value businesses including pharmaceuticals, critical care, and electronics.

The company indicated that there will be no immediate impact on the supply of derivative products during the transition period.
