en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 27th, The Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has successfully commenced oil production from its development well Pasakhi-13, marking a milestone as Pakistan's first successful horizontal oil well in a clastic reservoir (Lower Goru-A sand).
The Pasakhi-13 well was drilled to a measured depth of 2966 meters, incorporating a 546-meter horizontal section. Geosteering technology was applied to precisely navigate within a narrow 3-meter drilling window to optimize reservoir targeting. The well was tested and completed using a short-string electrical submersible pump optimized for horizontal well configurations. Horizontal drilling technology enhances reservoir exposure, resulting in a production rate nearly three times higher than that of offset wells under similar conditions. This oil production milestone demonstrates the applicability of horizontal well technology in complex clastic reservoirs, providing a technical reference for Pakistan's future development of oil and gas resources in similar geological settings.
This well is part of the Pasakhi and Pasakhi North Development and Production Lease, in which OGDCL holds a 100% working interest. The company stated that this oil production achievement reflects its continued commitment to technological innovation, while also contributing to advancing domestic oil and gas production and strengthening Pakistan's energy security. With the broader application of such horizontal well technologies, Pakistan is expected to further increase its domestic oil and gas production and reduce its reliance on imported energy.
