Wedoany.com Report-Dec 16, Freightliner has initiated its first intermodal train service linking Włosienica in Silesia with the port of Świnoujście, connecting southern Poland to Sweden via ferry.

The train, carrying cargo destined for further distribution in Sweden via port in Ystad, marks the first such operation at the Świnoujście Ferry Terminal. This step follows successful test runs conducted earlier.

Expanded intermodal services in Świnoujście

The new service complements Freightliner PL's existing intermodal operations, which include cross-border connections between Poland and Germany since 2014 and expanded intermodal services within Germany and Poland in subsequent years. The company has focused on integrating land and sea transport solutions, leveraging its operational base at major Polish ports such as Gdańsk and Gdynia.

Operational efficiency

Freightliner employs Dragon locomotives equipped with diesel modules, allowing operations on non-electrified sections and reducing the need for additional shunting locomotives. This approach supports streamlined logistics processes by enabling direct cargo delivery to sidings and terminals, minimizing time spent on switching locomotives.

With its inaugural service to Sweden, Freightliner expands its intermodal network, offering an additional logistics route for cargo across the Baltic Sea. The connection represents an operational improvement in integrating rail and sea transport solutions for the region.
