Wedoany.com Report-Dec 16, The €12.7 million investment will improve the transport of construction materials such as dolomite, granite gravel, and metals.

LTG Cargo, the freight forwarder of the LTG Group, continues to expand its rolling stock fleet with the purchase of 200 new semi-wagons for the transport of bulk goods in Lithuania.

Following an international public tender, a contract has been signed with LLC TAS Dniprovagonmash, which will manufacture the wagons and will come into effect by the end of the year. The first wagons will be delivered to LTG Cargo as early as February/April 2025.

The new wagons will be used mainly for the transport of bulk and other weather-resistant cargoes. These include dolomite and granite crushed stone used in the construction industry and metals. The new wagons will be ready to start running as early as 2025. This 12.7 million euro investment in the expansion of the fleet is a significant one.

"The transport of building materials in Lithuania is one of the largest and one of the cargo segments that has grown significantly in recent years due to the intensification of construction and road repairs. With the acquisition of LTG Cargo's specially manufactured wagons, we will continue to increase our transport volumes, with the additional 0.7 million tonnes of freight that these semi-wagons will transport. The renewed fleet will also allow us to improve the efficiency and quality of our services," says Eglė Šimė, Managing Director of LTG Cargo.

The share of minerals and construction materials in LTG Cargo's total rail freight in 2023 was just over a fifth - 21%. The construction of major infrastructure projects Via Baltica and Rail Baltica, as well as increased investment in the Road Maintenance and Development Programme, are expected to increase demand for crushed stone.

LTG Cargo has also purchased 500 wagons from two Ukrainian manufacturers this year for grain transport in Lithuania, which are already being used to transport agricultural products.
