en.Wedoany.com Reported - Aker BP announced that the Symra oil field in the Norwegian North Sea has commenced production. The project started nine months earlier than originally planned, contributing to the development progress in the Eiga area.

The Symra field is located approximately 7 kilometers northeast of the Ivar Aasen platform. It utilizes a subsea tie-back system, connecting four wells through a subsea template. The production flow undergoes initial processing at the Ivar Aasen platform and final processing at the Edvard Grieg platform.

The field is estimated to have total recoverable resources of about 60 to 63 million barrels of oil equivalent. It marks the first development of a Zechstein carbonate reservoir on the Norwegian continental shelf. The project also involves modifications to the Ivar Aasen and Edvard Grieg platforms to connect subsea infrastructure and enhance processing capacity.

Karl Johnny Hersvik, CEO of Aker BP, stated: "The Symra project demonstrates the results of collaborative efforts by partners: safe delivery, high quality, and rapid execution. This is an important step for us into new areas of the Eiga region and a new reservoir type on the Norwegian continental shelf."

Aker BP holds a 50% interest in the Symra field and is the operator. Partners Equinor holds 30% and DNO holds 20%. For DNO, the Symra field is expected to provide a net production of approximately 4,000 to 5,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day at its peak.

The development project involved collaboration with several suppliers, including TechnipFMC (responsible for subsea systems), Moreld Apply and Aibel (responsible for platform modifications), as well as Odfjell Drilling and Halliburton (responsible for drilling operations).

Symra is the sixth project approved for Aker BP in 2022 to commence production, supporting production growth in the North Sea region.
