en.Wedoany.com Reported - Thyssenkrupp Uhde has recently been awarded a contract by Brunei Fertilizer Industries Sdn Bhd (BFI) to execute the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) for the expansion of BFI's ammonia handling and export infrastructure. The project primarily involves designing a new low-temperature ammonia storage tank and developing dedicated ammonia export facilities, including jetty integration and ship loading systems, to support large-scale ammonia exports to the global market. The FEED work will be executed within Uhde's global engineering network, combining its uhde® ammonia technology expertise with Wood India's capabilities in low-temperature storage and ammonia logistics.

The contract scope covers the design of the low-temperature ammonia storage tank using Wood India's validated global engineering standards and the development of ammonia export facilities, specifically including jetty interfaces, pipelines, and ship loading arms. Uhde will also optimize integration with the existing BFI complex to ensure the reliability and safety of export operations. This project marks a further deepening of the cooperative relationship between Thyssenkrupp Uhde and BFI. Previously, the company provided key technologies and engineering services for BFI's large-scale ammonia and urea complex, which is one of the more advanced fertilizer production plants in Southeast Asia.

Nadja Håkansson, Member of the Executive Board of Thyssenkrupp Decarbon Technologies and Chief Operating Officer, and CEO of Thyssenkrupp Uhde, stated: "We are very pleased to continue our close collaboration with Brunei Fertilizer Industries. BFI is an important partner for us in Asia, and this new FEED award demonstrates their trust in our engineering capabilities. By supporting the expansion of their export infrastructure, we are helping to further unlock Brunei's potential in the ammonia market and increase their contribution to global food security."

Harri Kiiski, CEO of Brunei Fertilizer Industries, emphasized the strategic significance of the project: "At BFI, we are committed to expanding our business scope and contributing to Brunei's role in the global fertilizer and energy transition. Thyssenkrupp Uhde has been a trusted partner from the very beginning, and their deep technical expertise makes them the ideal choice for this critical development step. The new export facilities will enhance our competitiveness and open up new market opportunities worldwide."

The BFI plant, built by Thyssenkrupp Uhde, is a fully integrated fertilizer complex, including an ammonia plant with a daily capacity of 2,200 metric tons, as well as a urea plant and urea granulation plant with a daily capacity of 3,900 metric tons. Upon completion, the plant enabled Brunei to produce high-quality nitrogen fertilizers primarily for the export market. Nitrogen is an essential nutrient for plant growth and therefore a key agricultural input. With the expansion of export capacity, BFI further strengthens its contribution to securing global nutritional security. Simultaneously, as ammonia is increasingly seen as a potential clean energy carrier, BFI also enhances its position to meet the growing global demand within the emerging low-carbon energy value chain.
