en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) has set a new target of handling 80 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo for the fiscal year 2026-27. The authority had just set a historical record in the previous fiscal year (2025-26) with a throughput of 75.15 million tonnes.

During a stakeholder meeting held in Mumbai, MbPA reviewed its performance in the previous fiscal year and identified priority areas for improvement, including enhancing operational efficiency, accelerating vessel turnaround, and increasing berth utilization. Data shows that in FY 2025-26, MbPA accounted for 8.22% of the total cargo handled by major Indian ports, held a 35% market share in steel import and export cargo, 15.5% in liquid bulk cargo, and 10.48% in coastal trade.

Port Authority Chairman Dr M Angamuthu attributed the record performance to collaboration among port users, trade partners, and government agencies, noting that every million tonnes of cargo drives revenue, employment, and overall economic growth. According to officials, the meeting focused on improving key performance indicators, strengthening offshore and related cargo operations unique to Mumbai Port, and providing faster, more cost-effective services.

Participants also included port users and terminal operators, who jointly reviewed upcoming projects such as the proposed marina development. MbPA stated that future efforts will focus on increasing cargo throughput, introducing more environmentally friendly handling methods, and deepening coordination with stakeholders to support the continued growth of maritime trade.
