en.Wedoany.com Reported - Algeria has launched a new round of oil and gas bidding rounds, offering 24 onshore blocks located in the Sahara region to attract foreign investment and boost production. The country's upstream regulatory body ALNAFT stated that these blocks are distributed across the Illizi, Berkine, Central Sahara, Northern, and Western basins, primarily concentrated in the Amguid-Messaoud and Oued Mya areas of the Central Sahara.

Of the bidding portfolio, 13 blocks are development projects that may require implementing enhanced oil recovery techniques; another 11 are exploration projects, some of which involve existing discoveries requiring further evaluation. Algeria's Minister of Hydrocarbons, Mohamed Arkab, stated at the launch ceremony in Algiers: “This new bidding round will help strengthen global energy security and consolidate Algeria’s role as a regional energy hub.”

The nomination phase began on April 19, allowing companies to express interest in selected assets before the competitive bidding process. Most blocks are located near existing infrastructure and feature proven petroleum systems. Bidding documents and technical presentations will be available from June 1, with a data room session running until October 31. The bid submission deadline is November 26. Successful bidders will be required to sign production sharing or participation agreements with state-owned energy company Sonatrach by January 31, 2027.

According to the Algiers Brief, Sonatrach plans to invest $60 billion between 2026 and 2030, with 80% allocated to upstream exploration and production and 20% to downstream refining and petrochemicals, providing support for Algeria's oil and gas block tender.
