en.Wedoany.com Reported - Recently, with the successful completion of all commissioning work, the rubber ball cleaning device for Unit 1 of Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Plant has officially met the conditions for operation. This is China's first retrofit project to add a rubber ball cleaning system to the condenser of an operating nuclear power unit, implemented under a plant project management model with self-directed construction. To address potential scaling on the titanium tubes of the condenser during long-term operation, the addition of the rubber ball cleaning device enables cleaning of the titanium tubes while the unit is in power operation, maintaining tube cleanliness and improving unit efficiency.
This retrofit project required dismantling multiple layers of structural components within the compact turbine hall, removing the reserved section of the ball collecting net at the lower part of the condenser water chamber, and replacing it with a ball collecting net device weighing 9.6 tons. As the first of its kind for an operating nuclear power unit in China, there was no prior experience to draw upon. The project team worked on-site, innovating and breaking through challenges by employing 3D scanning technology and specialized tools such as new flange separators, custom guide rails, transport platforms, and transport frames. After nearly two months of intensive effort, the rubber ball cleaning retrofit for the condenser of Unit 1 was successfully completed. This project provides a replicable technical template for similar retrofits on other operating nuclear power units in the future.
According to estimates, after the rubber ball cleaning device is put into operation, the unit's efficiency can be significantly improved.
