en.Wedoany.com Reported - Mercedes-Benz Trucks has introduced the eActros Lowliner, designed for bulk transport with mega-trailers, a segment previously dominated almost entirely by diesel vehicles.

Despite the accelerating electrification of passenger cars, the adoption of long-haul electric trucks remains a challenge for the industry. Heavy loads, long distances, and charging time constraints keep diesel technology dominant. Mercedes-Benz states that the launch of the eActros Lowliner demonstrates that electric trucks are beginning to take on tasks previously only possible with diesel vehicles.

The Lowliner configuration is the core innovation of the new model. With a fifth-wheel coupling height of just 950 mm, it can handle high-volume trailers widely used in European logistics, enabling more cargo to be transported per trip.

The eActros Lowliner is available in two versions. The eActros 400 Lowliner uses two lithium iron phosphate batteries with a capacity of 414 kWh and can carry 24 tons of cargo. The eActros 600 Lowliner is equipped with three batteries, offering a capacity of 621 kWh and a range of approximately 500 km at a total weight of 40 tons.

This launch is strategically significant. Mercedes-Benz is expanding its electric truck lineup to compete with other manufacturers and Tesla in the long-haul electric truck segment. The eActros Lowliner is specifically designed for market segments with high demands for range and cargo capacity, while the Tesla Semi focuses on performance and cost.

Both models are pre-equipped with interfaces for the Megawatt Charging System (MCS), a technology expected to become the standard for long-haul electric trucks and reduce charging times.

The eActros Lowliner will be officially unveiled at the IAA Transportation Show in Hanover in September, with the first vehicles set to begin production in Germany in 2027.
