en.Wedoany.com Reported - Honeywell has launched the artificial intelligence control system platform Experion Cognition, which optimizes production and enhances industrial facility safety through recommendations and automated decision-making, aiming to drive autonomous operations. The platform has completed on-site proof of concept at the Ruwais plant of Borouge Group International AG in Abu Dhabi.

Experion Cognition helps reduce process errors and downtime by proactively detecting and mitigating abnormal conditions before they occur, thereby expanding operator responsibilities and optimizing plant production.

Jim Masso, President and CEO of Honeywell Process Automation, stated that the industry has discussed the concept of an autonomous control room for years, and Experion Cognition brings this vision into production, enabling safer operations and stronger performance in complex environments. He noted that by leveraging AI-driven agents to proactively manage process anomalies, operators can consistently achieve better results.

The platform combines Honeywell's decades of process automation expertise with AI models to proactively take action on behalf of operators, assisting in resolving abnormal situations in the control room. As experienced operators retire, automated situational management helps address industrial workforce shortages and skill gaps. By delegating these cognitive tasks to autonomous agents, Experion Cognition enables less experienced operators to run the plant like seasoned experts.

Dr. Hasan Karam, Chief Operating Officer of Borouge International, stated that as the first AI autonomous operations project in the petrochemical industry, this collaboration sets a new standard for efficiency and innovation, enhancing employee skills while improving performance and competitiveness. This initiative is a core component of Borouge International's AI, digitalization, and technology strategy, reflecting a focus on rigorous execution, operational impact, and long-term value creation.

Experion Cognition integrates multiple AI capabilities, including the Operations Assistant. In several pilots, the platform was able to predict alarm events an average of 5 to 10 minutes in advance.

As part of the Honeywell Experion PKS distributed control system network, Experion Cognition is designed to seamlessly integrate into existing control room environments. The platform is scheduled for commercial launch in the third quarter of 2026.
