NYAB Secures Port of Umeå Northern Quay Redevelopment Contract

Wedoany.com Report-Mar 10, NYAB has secured a Skr164m ($15.8m) contract from Umeå Hamn AB to redevelop the Northern Quay, as part of a significant expansion of the Port of Umeå in Sweden.

Completion is expected by late 2026.

The Northern Quay project involves the construction of a new quay, demolition of the existing structure, dredging, and creation of a ramp for loading and unloading operations.

Additionally, NYAB will be responsible for paving the port area and constructing the superstructure.

The project is scheduled to commence this month and be completed by late 2026.

NYAB Infrastructure Business Area manager Mattias Broström said: “I am pleased that NYAB has been entrusted to further develop Umeå’s infrastructure and thereby contribute to the region’s continued growth. The project fits well with our competencies, and we see great continued growth potential in this region.

“The work to upgrade the Port of Umeå for future needs is one of the municipality’s largest investments, and we look forward to being part of that journey.”

The Port of Umeå, situated 17km south of Umeå itself, manages 2.6 million tonnes of goods per year. It is positioned on the shortest route across the northern Gulf of Bothnia between Sweden and Finland.

The redevelopment is expected to enhance the port’s capacity to handle modern vessels and greater cargo volumes.

NYAB offers services in engineering, construction, and maintenance across the private and public sectors in Sweden and Finland.

In January 2025, the company acquired Dovre Group’s businesses within Norwegian Consulting and Global Project Personnel.

Last month, NYAB received a Skr132m contract from Trosa municipality in Sweden for a water infrastructure project.
