The data center will be built on the lab's campus in Newport News, Virginia, to support the U.S. Department of Energy's (DoE) High-Performance Data Facility (HPDF) project. HPDF is a data management infrastructure project awarded to Jefferson Lab by the DoE in October 2023.

The Commonwealth of Virginia provided funding for the project, including $43.3 million in committed funds and $6 million in seed funding.
