en.Wedoany.com Reported - Digital technology company Cassava Technologies will invest 1.75 billion rand (approximately $103 million) in Gauteng province, as part of its overall 3.6 billion rand (approximately $218 million) investment plan in South Africa's digital ecosystem.

This investment aims to consolidate Cassava Technologies' operations in South Africa, which currently cover over 110,000 kilometers of fiber network and five data centers. The investment will be executed through the company's business units, including Liquid Intelligent Technologies, Cassava Intelligence South Africa, and Africa Data Centres.
The 1.75 billion rand will be specifically allocated to expanding fiber network capacity, increasing data center capacity, and building cloud and cybersecurity infrastructure in Gauteng. The funds will also be used to establish more artificial intelligence factories in the province, following Cassava Technologies' launch of its first AI factory earlier this year in partnership with NVIDIA.
The investment was facilitated by the Gauteng Growth and Development Agency (GGDA). Earlier this month, GGDA CEO Sthembiso Dlamini conducted a site visit to Cassava Technologies' office in Johannesburg.
"In addition to strengthening Gauteng's digital infrastructure, this investment will drive digital inclusion by expanding connectivity access, supporting digital literacy, and creating skills development opportunities, enabling people to meaningfully participate in the modern digital economy," Dlamini said in a statement.
"The unique combination of a highly developed first-world economic infrastructure and a vast emerging market economy has fostered strong entrepreneurial vitality and a dynamic investment environment, while key public-private partnerships will ensure that South Africa maintains its status as an attractive investment destination," said Hardy Pemhiwa, CEO of Cassava Technologies, in a statement earlier this year.
This capital injection will not only improve Gauteng's digital infrastructure but also create jobs in information and communication technology, engineering, construction, and digital services, thereby enhancing the province's appeal to investors. The provincial capital, Johannesburg, is a top-tier data center destination, with analysts reporting that the city will accommodate 76% of new IT capacity.
