The project will be implemented on a build-own-operate basis, and the winning bidder will receive central financial assistance in the form of viability gap funding.

According to the tender guidelines, the selected developer will be responsible for the construction, operation, and maintenance of the BESS, and will connect it to the substation of Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited at Kushtagi Huliyurdurga. The energy required for charging the BESS will be supplied by the distribution company, which will also manage the charging and discharging schedule "on demand." Bidders are required to submit a bid security of INR 500,000 per MW and a bid processing fee of INR 20,000 per MW.

Previously, in April 2026, KREDL signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of New South Wales to support the transition to clean and renewable energy. The memorandum outlines key areas of cooperation, including promoting bilateral exchange opportunities and establishing a renewable energy startup incubator in Karnataka.
