en.Wedoany.com Reported - Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has approved a memorandum of understanding regarding a grant of 300,000 Kuwaiti dinars from the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, which will be used to fund a comprehensive feasibility study to enhance the capacity of the power interconnection line between Egypt and Jordan.

The study will support the two countries' plans to increase the interconnection capacity from the current 500 megawatts to 2,000 megawatts. Egypt and Jordan signed agreements and implementation plans covering multiple sectors including energy, power interconnection, investment, industry, tourism, and transportation in August 2025. The two sides also agreed to expand cooperation in power interconnection projects and natural gas supply, continue technical coordination on infrastructure development, and resume the tripartite cooperation mechanism with Iraq after resolving implementation challenges.

Currently, Egypt and Jordan are connected via a 400-kilovolt power interconnection line using submarine cables, which was commissioned in 1999 and operates under mutually agreed technical arrangements. This project is part of Egypt's broader plan to strengthen power interconnection with its neighboring countries. Meanwhile, Egypt is also implementing a power interconnection project with Saudi Arabia with a total capacity of 3,000 megawatts, carried out in two phases, with the first phase of 1,500 megawatts scheduled to be operational in the summer of 2026.
