en.Wedoany.com Reported - Alstom, through its joint venture Madhepura Electric Locomotive Private Limited (MELPL) with Indian Railways, has signed a new five-year maintenance service contract worth €107 million.

The agreement covers the maintenance of 250 WAG-12B electric locomotives and associated depot infrastructure at MELPL's Nagpur Depot. Following the successful completion of a previous four-year contract, this renewal reflects Indian Railways' continued recognition of Alstom's service capabilities.

The Nagpur Depot has now become a key maintenance hub for India's high-power freight locomotive fleet, supporting train operations across the country's dedicated freight corridors.

The 12,000-horsepower Prima T8 WAG-12B locomotives are designed to haul freight trains weighing up to 6,000 tons at a maximum speed of 120 km/h. These locomotives play a central role in expanding freight capacity while helping to reduce carbon emissions by shifting more cargo from road to rail.

Under the renewed agreement, Alstom will continue to provide comprehensive maintenance services through MELPL, covering depot operations and infrastructure upkeep. Rapid response teams equipped with specialized tools and spare parts will be strategically positioned to maximize fleet availability and minimize service disruptions.

Olivier Loison, Managing Director of Alstom India, stated that this contract renewal is a strong validation of the company's commitment and collaborative achievements, with the performance and reliability of the WAG-12B electric locomotives having been proven in practice.

The contract also includes ongoing technical training programs aimed at supporting talent development at the Nagpur Depot and enhancing maintenance expertise.

Currently, Alstom operates six industrial sites and five engineering centers in India, supporting both domestic and international rail projects through rolling stock, signaling, components, and maintenance services.
