en.Wedoany.com Reported - Brimstone has signed a memorandum of understanding with Century Aluminum to establish a domestic "mine-to-metal" supply chain for primary aluminum production in the United States.

Under the agreement, Brimstone will supply Century Aluminum with alumina from its planned production facilities. Alumina is a key raw material for aluminum production.

This collaboration aims to strengthen national security by establishing a reliable aluminum supply chain based on U.S. domestic resources. The partnership is expected to drive Brimstone's development of an industrial-scale plant and lay the foundation for the first fully U.S.-sourced and produced aluminum supply chain.

The MOU targets enhancing supply chain resilience and reducing reliance on imports, which may be affected by international supply disruptions. Cody Finke, CEO of Brimstone, stated that foreign sources, including China, currently dominate global alumina production, while Brimstone is bringing alumina production back to the United States at globally competitive prices. He noted that Brimstone is disrupting a significant global imbalance by producing alumina from rock mined at U.S. domestic quarries.

U.S. aluminum producers currently rely on imported bauxite to support global alumina production, as there are no economically viable bauxite deposits within the United States. This dependence exposes the domestic industry to supply risks. China accounts for approximately 60% of global alumina and aluminum production, while U.S. aluminum output is less than one-sixth of its consumption.

Brimstone's demonstration plant in Reno, Nevada, is scheduled to begin operations in 2028. Its first industrial-scale plant is targeted for completion by 2034, with an expected annual production capacity of approximately 350,000 metric tons of smelter-grade alumina. Century Aluminum recently announced a joint venture with Emirates Global Aluminum to build a primary aluminum production facility in Inola, Oklahoma. In April 2026, the company invested $50 million to restart idle capacity at its Mt. Holly plant in South Carolina.

Brimstone is also in discussions with other customers and partners to expand its operations into cement, steel, and other critical minerals.
