en.Wedoany.com Reported - On June 27, 2026, the Conference on the Integrated Development of Biotechnology and Artificial Intelligence was held in Beijing, focusing on promoting the deep integration of AI and biotechnology to drive innovation in biological breeding and biomanufacturing scenarios, accelerating the formation of new quality productive forces. The conference coincided with the 40th anniversary of the Biotechnology Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS). CAAS President Huang Sanwen attended and delivered a speech. Former CAAS leaders Zhai Huqu, Academician Liu Xu, and Academician Tang Huajun were specially invited, and Academician Yao Bin also attended the meeting.

In his speech, Huang Sanwen fully affirmed the achievements of the Institute since its establishment and pointed out that the Institute should seize the major opportunity of deep integration between AI and biotechnology to accelerate original innovation and industrial application of agricultural biotechnology. He emphasized that CAAS, as the main force of national agricultural research, will focus on the "AI+" strategic deployment outlined in the national "15th Five-Year Plan," fully implement the "CAAS AI Science and Technology Development Plan," promote the deep integration of AI technology with agricultural science and technology innovation, and provide support for building a strong agricultural nation.

At the conference, a signing ceremony and laboratory unveiling were held for the cooperation between the Institute, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., and Shenzhen MGI Tech Co., Ltd. The three parties will jointly establish the "AI Agriculture Joint Innovation Laboratory" and the "Digital Cell Spatiotemporal Omics Laboratory."

During the keynote report session, Researcher Gu Xiaofeng, Deputy Director of the CAAS Major Task Bureau, along with technical experts from Huawei and BGI, shared the latest development trends, research progress, and case studies on topics such as AI-driven biological breeding, intelligent computing power, and multi-dimensional omics genome foundation model applications.

The conference also reviewed the 40-year development history of the Institute and presented commemorative plaques to employee representatives who have worked at the Institute for 40 years. During the concurrently held Agricultural Biotechnology Collaborative Innovation Promotion Meeting, heads of agricultural biotechnology research institutions from universities and research institutes nationwide engaged in in-depth discussions on interdisciplinary collaboration, synergistic innovation, talent cultivation, and research output under the AI revolution, aiming to integrate scientific and technological forces from universities and institutes and explore new models of integrated innovation. Additionally, nearly 30 agricultural technology enterprises participated in a symposium, reaching a consensus on the coordinated development of industry, academia, research, and application in agricultural biotechnology. Leaders from relevant departments and units of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and CAAS, along with over 400 experts, scholars, and representatives from domestic universities, research institutions, and enterprises, attended the conference.
