en.Wedoany.com Reported - Coolbrook has received a research and development grant from Business Finland to participate in the FutSteel project led by Swedish steel company SSAB. The total scale of Coolbrook's portion in the project is €5 million, of which €2.5 million is covered by this grant.

The grant will advance the development of Coolbrook's RotoDynamic Heater (RDH™) in the high-temperature steel sector, with key focuses including integrating RDH into blast furnace processes, achieving electrified heating, preheating air for hot blast stoves, developing hybrid heating concepts, producing decarbonized direct reduced iron, and applying it to hydrogen-based steelmaking processes.

RDH™ technology can generate temperatures of up to 1,700°C using renewable electricity, achieving zero CO₂ emissions during operations. Coolbrook noted that its previous commercial-scale deployment in the cement industry with Ambuja Cement (Adani Group) provides an engineering foundation for its entry into the steel sector. The grant will also support advanced process modeling, equipment development, and intellectual property-related activities. SSAB and FutSteel project partners will collaborate with Coolbrook to accelerate the industrial deployment of the technology, aligning with Business Finland's goal of enhancing Finland's competitiveness through exportable green technologies.
