en.Wedoany.com Reported - On June 30, the launching ceremony of the Jiaxing Sea-River Intermodal Hub Zero-Carbon Route and the delivery and naming ceremony of the 740TEU pure electric container ship "Ningyuan Dianpeng" of Ningbo Ocean Shipping Co., Ltd. were held at Dushan Port Area of Jiaxing Port. As the "Ningyuan Dianpeng" slowly departed from Dushan Port Area of Jiaxing Port fully loaded with containers, heading to Jintang Port Area of Ningbo Zhoushan Port, the country's first sea-river intermodal hub zero-carbon route was officially put into operation, marking the entry of sea-river intermodal transport into the zero-carbon era.
The "Ningyuan Dianpeng" was built by Ningbo Ocean Shipping Co., Ltd., with a total length of 127.8 meters and a width of 21.6 meters. It can carry 742 standard containers and uses 10 standardized box-type batteries as its core power source, with a total storage capacity of approximately 20,000 kWh. It is expected to save about 800 tons of fuel and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by over 2,000 tons annually.
The newly launched sea-river intermodal hub zero-carbon route establishes a zero-carbon transport system combining "pure electric river vessels + pure electric sea vessels." The complete knock-down kits of automobiles from Geely's Changxing base are the first "zero-carbon passengers" on this route—the products depart from Changxing Port on a 64TEU pure electric river container ship to Jiaxing Port, then transfer to the 10,000-ton pure electric container ship "Ningyuan Dianpeng" to Ningbo Zhoushan Port, achieving zero fuel consumption and zero exhaust emissions throughout the entire journey. According to estimates, each container can reduce carbon emissions by approximately 60 kilograms per trip, and the route can reduce carbon emissions by about 4,800 tons annually. The sea-river intermodal hub zero-carbon route endows cargo with a "low-carbon identity card," enhancing industrial added value and providing a new water transport solution for foreign trade enterprises in the Yangtze River Delta to achieve low-carbon exports.
To ensure the smooth launch of the sea-river intermodal hub zero-carbon route, the Zhejiang Maritime Safety Administration, under the guidance of the Maritime Safety Administration of the Ministry of Transport, proactively provided services, building a full-chain guarantee for the safe operation of new energy vessels. "During the preparation of the sea-river intermodal hub zero-carbon route, we visited shipping companies, ports, and supporting units, and introduced special service measures tailored to the practical issues faced, clearing bottlenecks in the connection between inland waterways and sea routes," a relevant official from the Zhejiang Maritime Safety Administration told reporters.
Currently, the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government are deploying efforts to comprehensively advance the construction of a higher-level ecological province and a new energy system. The launch of the sea-river intermodal hub zero-carbon route is a significant measure for Zhejiang to achieve its "dual carbon" goals and promote comprehensive green transformation and development, marking a landmark achievement in the province's green and low-carbon transformation of shipping.
